Learning 3D. 3D and I are a good match — I’ve always liked keeping things simple in my work. I’m still at a stage where I need to decide what to keep and what to leave out. In the previous series, I realized that while modeling complex objects can be fun, it doesn’t always add meaning to the illustration. What’s the point of spending time on a detailed shoe if that’s not what the image is really about?
For this series, I focused on the theme of books and newspapers.
The characters are kept very simple — bodies, faces, and clothes are reduced to the essentials. I started using extruded shapes made in Illustrator (like shoes, flowers, or a seastar). Some objects are more complex though, which helps add a sense of scale and depth through textures and patterns.
